Human refuge and retreat
Outside of ordinary time, seated on ancestral ground, (the Nuu-ciu (Ute) and surrounded by wildness, we are a significant place of retreat and deepening for all varieties of movement and mindfulness practice, as well as inspiration for creatives both cultural and artistic. We are devoted to creativity as an endeavor and a way of life and wellness/wholeness at the core it all. We have both spent many years cultivating deep connections to much of what we plan to offer.
We are currently building out our community structure which will have a serene area for yoga and movement practices,. We anticipate completing this project late Spring of this year ( 2025).
Retreat space
Over the years we have hosted dharma groups, shamanic journey groups, painters en plain air, journal keepers, and experiences with pottery and archeology. The community space is also a gathering room for group brainstorming and meetings. If you are interesting in booking a retreat for your group, or our meeting space, please contact us directly.
our Labyrinth
An auspicious guest connection early in our stewardship brought to us a formal outside labyrinth designed by Connie Fente. This ancient tool of contemplation engages intentional walking, cultivating state of my responses (centeredness, clarity, openness, peace, and reflection) known as the 'labyrinth effect." In turn, we become receptive to flashes of intuition, nudges from our "inner voice," as a form of insight meditation.

Creativity
"Art is not a privilege, it's a right. It's a fundamental part of being human."
We have approached much of our renovation and restoration process with an artists' eye, innovative thinking and problem solving. Our business model is also creative with a willingness to take risks and think outside of the box. We believe creating beauty and harmony is a revelation for our time. We encourage more dialog with ourselves, each other and our embodiment through workshops as well as a retreat context for personal exploration through movement, writing, music and the visual arts.
We have a resident artist ( and hope to have more)! who returns every year for several weeks, another happy guest connection. Artist Vicki Keese reached out to us in 2021 wondering if she could bring her 1969 vintage Airstream to our camping area with her pups to let her soul dangle for awhile? We're so glad we said yes! Vicki contributes something wonderful every time she stays with both her talent and her heart. (We are open to art trades!)

Pottery and clay

A culturally rich area for pottery, Janet Lever-Wood is an accomplished potter, sculptor and thinker with her studio in Cortez. We are grateful and delighted to have several of her outdoor sculptures elevating our place. She has absorbed on the cellular level the pottery of the region and its story, which emanates from her work connecting us in time with ancient hands. She has also created original plateware for us we are eager to share with our guests with our provisions.
"At this time when the world seems quite fragile, where potters can be added to the list of “endangered species”, it seems more important than ever to speak of beauty, craftsmanship, sustainability and hope. I wish to continue making simple pots and unique sculptures that make the world a better place." Janet
